Ocean Lakes 35, Cox 34...Thourogood, DiNardo lead the way
"And just when it seemed like they were done, the Falcons rallied behind quarterback D.J. DiNardo’s three
touchdowns to stun the Stallions 29-28 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex."
Bayside must contain DiNardo to have a chance. Last week, he kept Green Run guessing.

“He is a good ball handler, and he makes things happen,” Moore said. “Most teams get hurt when the
quarterback pitches the ball, but he did more damage when he held onto it.
“DiNardo makes things happen for him, so we really tried to get the ball out of his hands and get it to someone
else,” said Bayside coach Darnell Moore,
"Cox’s D.J. DiNardo scored touchdowns of 2 and 39 yards"
"Quarterback D.J. Dinardo rushed for 132 yards and three TDs and Devaul Peterson added 85 yards for the
Falcons (4-2)."
"D.J. Dinardo broke open a 7-7 game with a 63-yard touchdown run with 5:01 left in the third quarter as the
Falcons moved into a tie with Landstown and First Colonial for second place in the Beach District.

DiNardo finished with 146 all-purpose yards and three TDs for Cox, which rushed for 158 yards."
“He’s a special,” Nelson said. “He just sees things on the field and that’s the beautiful thing about having
him out there.”

Even Kempsville coach David Johnson knew DiNardo was going to get the ball.

“We knew that, but that’s just a testament of the type of kid he is and the type of player he is,” Johnson
said. “We knew he was going to get the ball, but we had to do a better job of stopping him.”
"The Falcons, led by DiNardo, who ran for 175 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries, played a terrific
offensive game. Cox amassed 324 yards in total offense against one of the area’s top defensive squads and
scored on their first three possessions."
"The go-ahead score came on Cox’s previous possession when quarterback D.J. DiNardo, who rushed for 120
yards and two touchdowns, set up his own 10-yard scoring run with a 35-yard punt return."
"DiNardo was nearly unstoppable in his own way. His timing, balance and decision-making on the option
resulted in him making tough gains in short-yardage situations and enabled him to rip off runs of 14, 48, 13 and
15 yards against one of the area’s top defenses."

But Scott also had high praise for DiNardo.

“Cox came to play tonight, they’re a playoff team with one of the best high school players around in D.J.
DiNardo,” he said.
